Cool, that looks great. Looking forward to seeing the doc.
GemmaMemberI’d definetely be ineterested in this…I remember that it was on last year but I did’t make it. I’m always saying I need to learn more about the technical side of stuff..even if I don’t end up ever being in charge myself of lights or sound on something, I’d like to know what people are talking about all the same! A sound production course would be great too. ” title=”Smile” />
GemmaMemberCalifornia? Hah I’d swap cities with him for a while!
I’m sure I’d sort something out anyway, it’ll be grand. Thanks for your help though.
I’m sure I have some old sketches stashed away somewhere so I’ll go dig those out…GemmaMemberHey, I’d be interested in this but I’m wary of the fact that you said we’d have to meet somewhere outside of Cork…I don’t own a car so not sure that I’d actually make a meeting but I’d like to keep up to date with what’s happening all the same.
GemmaMemberHey Soma!
GemmaMemberOh cool! Best of luck with that! It sounds very intriguing…
GemmaMemberThanks for the advice!
Yes, it’s hard to determine what a short film should be. But I would agree that a short film can do without sub-plots; it gets too messy otherwise. It’s best to focus on one theme.
I guess a lot of shorts tend to be one act…some are sort of like a segment from the lives of the characters. Heh I’m getting carried away now..! But it is an interesting topic.
Also, yes, from the shorts I viewed at previous Cork film festivals, I gathered that Mick Hannigan does indeed like his ‘quirky’ shorts. I’m not sure if this is fair; all types should get a look in…even if quirky scripts are fun to write and possibly more fun to make. I have seen some stuff that seems to be wierd for the sake of wierd though.
Saying all that, I really liked that short that won the audience award two years back: I wonder does anyone remember it..it was done in ‘film noir’ style..it was about a hard-boiled detective in County Waterford!GemmaMemberThe rules for entry on the Cork Film Fest site are worded kinda strangely…it says (and I quote!):
"To be eligible for the short film competitions, films must have been completed since July 1st 2006 and be 30 minutes or less in duration."
I presume they mean that the film should have been made between July 2006 and now, and not that it should have been completed by July 2006!
Also, some of us were wondering recently about the running time of short films..does anyone know whether it’s advisable to stick to the 3 minute format, or is anything under half an hour ok, as requested by the Cork Film Fest?
Thanks!GemmaMember"Sean":1ibynfgk wrote:Make it , and we’ll screen it at Futureshorts , It’d be well worth it .[/quote:1ibynfgk]Hmm in that case maybe we will…maybe we wiilll…Heh sorry I hadn’t checked back here in a while. We’ll let ye know if it gets underway again.
Thanks for the interest!GemmaMemberYep, I am. I did it too last year. It’s good fun and you get to meet lots of people with an interest in film and film-making. You should go for it!
GemmaMemberOnly spotted this post now after months! But yes twas a great ending. Can’t wait to see how it picks up next season.
GemmaMemberCongrats! Enjoy watching it on the big screen!
GemmaMemberHey!
Only just saw the new design..it’s a good idea to put the forum on the first page as I bet that’s what most people aim for. Looking good!GemmaMemberHey there! Cool site! I heard about this through the grapevine.
My name’s Gemma. I’m 23 and from Cork City. I’m currently in that post college limbo phase where I’m pottering around and trying my hand at different stuff. That stuff mostly being film related. I did film studies in college but it was all essays and the only practical aspect was that I did some editing. I have made a couple of student films with friends though, and partook in the Kommando film competition. Basically I would love to help out on any film set where help is needed! I do like organising stuff (!) so I’d be more than happy to help organise any films, and sure if anyone’s desperate for actors, I’ll hop in front of the camera too haha!
I have a half-baked script too that shall be transformed into a wonderful film at some stage. I may come hunting for actors if anyone’s interested….
Tata for now. -
