don’t have any thing going in just a willingness to learn all i took on my first day was an a4 refill pad and a pen. don’t worry about a camera. media analysis is looking at different forms of media production but do watch out for desktop publishing, text production and communications major snore fests.

1st year really does suck!!!! be ready for lectures on attendance their kinda anal about it

as for work experience they’ll accept most stuff related to the course such as camera work or sound i did mine in Ros na Run and then in a radio station on the sound desk. ask photographers as well a lot of my year went to photographers. avoid the stations like rte they’ll just have you observing rather than actually experiencing if you wanna write why not try to get in touch with a dram group like corca dorca ( cant spell it) or graffiti maybe even the echo or the examiner you could also ask a lot of wedding videoers i’d try to have atleast one week set up before hand as when every one starts looking they fill up pretty fast.

thats my advice any way take from it what you will. if you’re directed on just writing the course may not be for you a lot of it is the technichal side of things to begin with and if you have no interest in these things at all then you’ll loose interest very quickly every body wants to be a director or write when they first go in though then they find out they have interest in other aspects too. you wont really have a dedicated script writing class till second year all you’ll learn in first year is layout.

i loved the course but you get from it what you put in !

i think the idea is that the documentary will be an insert into a larger programme based on the topics which is probably why they are pre prepared.

in reply to: doritos comp. #4926

just had another idea for this as i walked to work:

we do a sin city effort we split the 29 seconds between three or four directors all centered around the same idea and then put it all together in the end. it would be fun if nothing else.

the idea i had would be to use "classic films" and replace the main charachter with a dorito or bag of doritos e.g tony montana in scarface is fighting the lads at the end and he screams say hello to my little friend and pulls out a bag of doritos from his inside jacket pocket and offers the other lads a crisp. Battleship potempkin the steps scene would be easy enough to recreate we just substitute the baby in the pram for a bag of doritos and leave it roll down some steps then every stops the revolution and tries to save the pram full of doritos. i mean there is a 101 different examples i could give

The tag line i have in my head is "doritos the classic snack"

anyway what do people think the multiple directors thing would be a challenge and i think it would be slightly easier to do than my original, ambitious idea.

the film and video course is a general first year for all entrants into film. the film section does not start until second year, getting into the film module depends on results, attendence, work rate and whether or not you impress the tutors.

so if you do get selected for the film course you WILL be doing tv and video modules in first year. hope this clears things up.

ok we got just over a month to make it. i’ll write the script as much as is needed get it storyboarded and scheduledthen we can start for real. anybody else interested in helping out. it would be a one day shoot less than i’d say>

in reply to: doritos comp. #4922

    mmmm interesting
how soon could this be put together taking into account
    location
    actors 7-9
    costume
    editing

i’d like to have a go off it if others are interested

in reply to: doritos comp. #4920

anybody have any ideas how we could achieve this effect i like where pados is going with this especially like the tagline

in reply to: doritos comp. #4918

yeah like it would have to work out a way to make it seem he is straddling time unless we do the modern party as a fancy dress party that way the dorian gray type guy would’nt have to change does this make sense. we could just dress the sets differently modern stuff in one half of the room and old fashioned antiques in the other.

in reply to: doritos comp. #4916

how about "so good makes any party come alive". i could probably blag a few packets from a supplier if anybody is interested in doing an ad just let me know

in reply to: doritos comp. #4915

had an idea for this one right we open up in a front room where there as a picture of a party hanging a turn of last century affair. it looks boring people sat about drinking wine etc. the owner of the house is preparing a party in modern day he places a bowl and a bag of doritos close to the picture. a membe rof the party notices this and puts his hand out through the picture and grabs a dorito he tastes it his eyes light up and he gets help to drag the bowl in the party in the picture becomes more lively and happy.

the tag line is ……. havent thought of one yet not an advertiser any body else like it or critiscisms or stuff i havent noticed.
