Solstice is delighted to welcome submissions to its four day event in association with the Cork Midsummer Festival

Submissions are now open for Solstice, a new event from Cork Midsummer Festival. The aim of Solstice is to provide a platform for Irish artists to showcase their work and to create an open and inclusive creative environment for both makers and spectators.

The idea for Solstice came from the feedback of last years successful Young Curators Programme which ran as part of Cork Midsummer Festival 2010. What became apparent was the need for the further development of the artistic and spectator community in Cork. The idea for a four day event taking place under one roof was developed from this basic desire.

The objective is to create and curate an event that we feel will develop a further sense of community within the Arts by introducing artists of different disciplines and locations to each other’s work; and also a sense of community between artists and the wider public through these programmed events.

Solstice will run from the 16th -19th June 2011 as part of Cork Midsummer 2011. It is organized and curated by four emerging artists: Ruairi Donovan, Dawn Mac Allister, Eszter Nemethi and Shirley Somers.

Submissions for the event are now being accepted as part of a nationwide open call, calling artists of all disciplines. Submissions will be open until [b:2f8beq4b]5pm 28th February 2011 [/b:2f8beq4b]but they will be assessed on a rolling basis so we advise not to leave applying to the last minute.
