What’s the story with filming in a public location. Does one need to get a permit or is it ok to just check with businesses in the location whether filming can go ahead? I want to film on the boardwalk outside the clarion.. and I wondered does anyone know anything about this sort of thing..or where I might find out?

Generally no permission is required in Public ,
however if you want to close off a section of public footpath or road you need to plan it and go down to the City hall on a tuesday afternoon at 1pm and talk to the roads dept about getting a licence for that. It might be worthwhile even just letting them know you’ll be shooting if you’re going to have a big group blocking up the boardwalk , but if you’re not going to get in the way , then you don’t need to.

As for public walking by , as long as only actors are in focus and identifiable then it’s OK but if any members of the public are Identifiably in shot , get a written release from them.

Business premises you’ll need to get written clearance if they are identifiable
Most are cool with it , give em a thanks in the credits

cheers! yeah there won’t be too many of us and it’ll prob be early morning so I reckon we won’t get in way. I’ll enquire with the shops/hotel etc cos they’ll be visible.

[b:9dcd1]The city council will sort you out with permits for anywhere in town. [/b:9dcd1]

You are supposed to have a permit to shot anywere in town at any time. and if you shoot at night they will ask you notify the Garde.

as well as get permission from building you shoot out side. lets just say you could be surpised by some of there reactions. Ann Summers refused to allow anything be shot outside the shop. and we hade nothing to do with them. <img loading=” title=”Razz” />

    Good luck
