I assume you’ve all heard something about the Nation Campaign for the Arts[/url:d0zl3yfm]? Well we’re holding a meeting for Cork artists to get involved on Thursday of next week the 29th of October. 11am in the Everyman Palace Theatre.

The primary concern of the Campaign is to protect arts funding in the forthcoming budget from recession-inspired slash & burn recommendations made by the McCarthy Report. The aim of this meeting is to attract publicity and raise support at a grassroots level for The National Campaign for the Arts, which is a broad and inclusive coalition that reflects the scale, reach and diversity of the arts in Ireland today. Its membership has a national reach that includes major festivals, venues, producers and representative organisations in visual arts, theatre, film, dance, music, literature, architecture and collaborative arts. Meetings like these have been taking place all over the country since the end of September and it is now time for Cork to stand up and be counted.

Anyone coming to this?

It would be great to get someone to film a bit of it too. A short YouTube clip containing a few interviews would be great. If someone is willing to film stuff, I can do the rest.

OK, machony. Meetings at 11 this time but there’ll hopefully be more gatherings at a later date.

Even if you’re not able to film the meeting come along and support the cause. There’ll be no point crying when the Film Board’s gone and you have nobody to apply to for funding.

This is the time to act!
