Date: Saturday 12th July 2008
Venue: Radisson Hotel Galway
Time: 2pm
Fee: 50The Galway Film Fleadh/Galway Film Centre in association with FAS Screen Training Ireland are proud to present the 2008 Directors Masterclass with this years Academy Award Winner for Best Documentary Feature, ALEX GIBNEY.
The multi-talented and prolific Gibney, who graduated from Yale with a Japanese literature major before attending UCLAs Graduate School of Film and Television, made his initial impact in TV documentaries where he either wrote, produced, directed or did a combination of all three.
Gibneys scathing look at corporate greed gone wild, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005), scored a political bulls-eye during a year filled with more than its usual government tumult. He has since followed up Enron with the Oscar-winning Taxi to the Dark Side which looks at the Bush administrations interrogation policies in the post-9/11 world. If American history is ever going to be discussed with the necessary clarity and ethical rigor, then Taxi to the Dark Side will be essential.
Gibney is also President of Jigsaw Productions, a production company which produces independent films, music documentaries, and TV mini-series. This year he won the Yale Film Studies’ Program Award for his contributions to film culture.
Admission to the masterclass is by application only. This masterclass would be suitable for participants who are pursuing a directing career for film and television. Places are limited and participants will be notified if they have been allocated a place.
